I hope you guys and girl s are doing well! So today I want to discuss fear. It’s something the LORD put on my heart to discuss so I thought I would. I have recently read Help Me! I’m Afraid by Joyce Meyers. I absolutely loved the book. It had so much insight on what fear is and how to deal with it. Therefore, some of what I say will be from her book! Let’s Get Started!
So Fear…. It’s a universal feeling. Everyone, everywhere, can think back to a time when they were afraid. However, the good news is. You don’t have to stay afraid. The Bible gives many scriptures on why we shouldn’t fear and what we can do to overcome fear. One of the most important things you should know is that fear is from Satan. Joyce Meyers informs us which is based on John 4:18 that, “Satan sends fear to try to torment us into being so doubtful and miserable, we will be prevented from doing what God wants us to do and receiving all that God has for us.” Just knowing this should make a believer stand up, tell the devil to shut up, and keep moving in the will of God with Him strengthening you as you press forward.
There are two reason why we shouldn’t fear. The first is in 2 Timothy 1:7 “For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning) but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.” The first thing the verse tell us is that we shouldn’t fear because God didn’t give us a spirit of fear. So why should we fear when God never told us to fear (besides Him). Also, the verse tells us that we have already conquered fear because God has given us a spirit of power, of love of a calm and well-balanced mind, and of discipline and self-control. Therefore, there is no reason to fear at all. This isn’t to say that one person should not feel a feeling of fear at all ever. No, not at all. Fear is a feeling and we was human so yes we should feel fear but we don’t have to or should let it take control of us and keep us from our God-given destiny. The second reason we shouldn’t fear is because we are God’s children. Isaiah 43:1-2 says, “1 But now, this is what the LORD says— he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.” This means that we are God’s children and sometimes we may have to go through trails but do not worry or fear because God is with us and we will not be hurt. Joyce Meyers explains this verse like this, “The Lord has promised to be with us and keep us safe when we go through the water, which will not overwhelm us, and through the fire, which will not burn us or scorch us.” So even if we are afraid we should do it anyway because fear is only from the devil, we are doing whatever it is for the LORD, and the LORD has promised us safety in His Word.
How to deal with fear. The first way is faith. Joyce Meyers puts it like this about faith: Faith is the antidote for fear. And I completely agree. Sometimes we must step out on faith, knowing that God is with us and do His Will even when we are afraid. Because we have faith that the LORD, our God, is with us and we will not be overwhelmed by water or scorched by fire. “The only thing that is effective against fear is faith.”(-Joyce Meyers) The second way to deal with fear is prayer using the name of Jesus when you pray(read John 16:22-23). Not just any type of prayer but a prayer of faith knowing that whatever we pray for we will receive it (Read James 1:5-8). The Bible tells us in Philippians 4:6-7, ” 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Pray, Pray, Pray!! It is the antidote to all fear this verse is proof!!
In conclusion, I want to encourage you with this scripture from Isaiah 43:10,” so do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” God is with us no matter what. The God we serve is good and always victorious. Therefore, we are victorious also through our union with Him through our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ! In Joyce Meyers book, she tells us, “If you have to, do it afraid.” Because God is telling us to do things that is for our own good and at the end we will reap a reward. The devil knows this and that is why he is telling you to fear. But it’s also why the God is telling you to fear not and not to let fear control your life because He wants and has the best for you(Read Jeremiah 29:11) (-paraphrase from Joyce Meyers book). I hope you guys and girls was encourage today to let go of fear and dear to step out on faith and trust God who is always there for you, strengthening you, protecting you, and loving you. Hope you have a great week. Until next time, God Bless!! 🙂 ❤
